This becomes more of an issue when you have spent countless hours on your posts, yet there’s no written feedback. And it exists everywhere: whether its verbal/oral communication (a conversation, discussion, phone call) or written (email, text messaging). Blogs are no exception. You write something, and then you expect to receive feedback. Many times, blogs are successful in this aspect (Zonal Marking, a blog on soccer tactics is a good example here). And often times, it just doesn’t work that way.

The question then is how to engage your readers to comment on your posts?

Very briefly, here are a few tips which you should consider when writing blog posts with the intention of receiving feedback and promoting an interactive discussion:

1. Spread the word! Advertise your post on social mediums, as well as other blogs. The more, the merrier!
2. Make your blog posts more interesting.
3. Make your blog or website more user-friendly. Invest in a theme.
4. Make it easy for people to comment on your posts. Make the blog/website more comment-friendly.
5. Ask questions, like direct questions, in your posts. And ask people for answers in the comment section.
6. Encourage people to send you feedback and ask people to comment on your post(s)
7. Sometimes being controversial can be a good thing. Remember, as the saying goes, no publicity is bad publicity!
8. Engage with people who comment.
9. When someone leaves a comment, make sure you reply, even if it’s just a ‘thanks’. Acknowledgement will only encourage them to comment again.
10. Reward them, in some way, for taking time out to write a comment.
11. Use an automated email system that sends out an email of acknowledgement and says thanks to everyone who replied to your post.
12. Add a few lines near the comment box telling people why they should comment.
13. Make sure to keep the comments section free of spam, and looking clean.

Reddit, as any internet-savvy person would know, is a website where users can submit all sorts of content from all over the world and based on a wide range of topics, and people like you and me can read this content.
